SounD!

TOM- The quote is something that popped in my head one day, so i wrote it down in my sketch book alongside that drawing of the 'pomp' girl. Then i drew the 'fro' girl the other day also screaming/singing, and thought the two of them might look good in an illustration together. I've been wanting to play around with illustration and text lately, since I've been looking at these Morning Breath guys stuff , which has been very inspiring. I'm not a graphic designer, so my choice in text is based on pure instinct and guessing. I knew i wanted the feel of several different style fonts making up the sentence, but i wasn't exactly sure how to execute it. Maybe it'll just be something to play around with...

Her tattoo is pretty! It would be fun to see you illustrate your own type. Handtypewouldgive it a nice feel as oppose to the type the computer has set. even so if you have illustrator the possiblities aer endless.....this reminds me...you have a buisness meeting at 6:30...only sketchpads allowed...

the illustrations are fantastic - i didn't comment on the last post, but the afro chick is great. the flat black hair is perfect, and her expression is great.

the type is ok. personally, i think if you hand drew the letters, even if they were within the same font styles, they might gel better with the illos. the contrast between the fonts and brush work seems to clash a bit. and i think the fonts could have been way bigger.

two tips. 1) do the type-work in Illustrator (maybe you did, i don't know). it's easier to edit, move, adjust and the resolution is better.
2) download this program - http://www.moonsoftware.com/getfile.asp?fxplorer - the program is font xplorer. what it does is shows you every font on your computer, and how it looks. i keep it open on the side when i'm working, and when i need a font, i scroll thru font xplorer and find the one i want first. alot easier than guessing when your using adobe.

I agree with James, I think the type/fonts clash with the illustration, like computer animation behind hand drawn cells or digital overdubs on four-track base tracks. (And yeah it's too small!) BUT I love!!! the illustrations, especially the one on the right...and the quote works.

Two tips:
1) I think you need to download Refrigerator to do your coloring (http://www.freeartprograms.com/refrigerator/) because it allows for better dpi and pointillation.
2) Your paper is good but have you tried using Kleenex?

y'know what? screw my tips - henry's tips are WAAAAY more relevant and important. i'm gonna go download that refrigerator - i hope it comes witha flux capacitor, cuz i need one of those.

Thanks for the feedback, this is one of those things that i could just kind of mess around with and experiment. I actually tried using Illustrator, but it drove me crazy, 'cause it's pretty confusing to me. James, maybe when you come up, you can show me what yr talking about. I think we have the same version. Also, i might just try that Kleenex technique, it's probably alot cheaper than paper...
