TOM- 'When I'm down, I just draw some roses, on a pretty piece of paper'

Those are lyrics to a song by Mos Def, entitled 'Roses'. I used those words as a jumping off point for this new illustration. I think it's a really great song and it always sparks some visuals in my head when I listen to it, so I thought I'd finally realize it on paper. I had fun and I hope you dig it!

If you don't know it, check out the whole song here.

Thanks for reading and have an awesome holiday weekend!

JAMES - Well now, here's a ton of new stuff - I've been a busy beaver, and figured I'd drop all these at once. They are all available right now in my store:

I have brand new posters for Kevin Devine's recent residency at Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles, and for Alexander and Fam (the "Fam" is Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros) who recently played a series of shows in Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Washington D.C.

Also, I've got a couple of remixes - redesigns of a couple of popular sold-out posters that people ask about all the time. Some new color tones, newly drawn details, and even some Glow in the Dark stuff. At Dawning (The Remix) and Knuckle Sandwich (The Remix) are hot to trot.

Finally, I have a mini-print triptych - three 8x10's with Glow in the Dark accents. The Swing, The Soul, The Truth is my homage to all the legendary players who have passed on.

Here are some close-ups and stuff:

American McGee's Alice: Madness Returns

JAMES - Here's my print for the "American McGee's Alice" show at Gallery1988, Los Angeles. I'm so honored to be asked to contribute something to the show, which celebrates the release of the new video game -- and if you've seen any of the other work for the show, you know I'm in really strong company.

These will be available Thursday, June 9th at the gallery for the public reception. Then they will go for sale online on Friday, June 10th at the Alice website:

I'll have much more info to share, and photos and sketches and stuff, after I get back from Brooklyn (leaving in a few hours) -- I'll be at the Renegade Craft Fair this weekend at McCarren Park in Brooklyn! Back to my hometown to do a little representing. I seriously have a ton of brand new stuff to debut this weekend -- T-shirts (three designs!!), a new triptych print, a couple of other new art prints, and a couple of new posters, too. I'll be at booth #193, so come on by - I'll be there all day Saturday and Sunday.

Just one of the new t-shirts...

Tan Lines

TOM - Here's a continuation from my last beach post. If there's one thing you see quite a bit outside this time of year, it's funny looking tan lines. Guys look like they have painted on shirts and chicks have those bra strap imprints, gotta love it! Anyway, that was the inspiration for this new piece. I know, I know, my art is soooo deep.

If you're curious, here a quick look at my process for creating this one. As you can see, it started off as a real rough ball point pen sketch.

It's hot and sunny out there people, get out and enjoy! Thanks for reading and I'll talk to you soon!

Roc-Roc-Rockaway Beach!

TOM - Summer is in full swing here in NY and I'm loving it! My favorite time of year for sure, full of bike riding, outdoor events, and of course, the beach! My particular beach of choice here in NY is Rockaway beach in Queens. Yep, the one The Ramones sang about. The image above is one of more to come inspired by summer, so expect to see more 'beachy' images soon. Thanks for stopping by!
