This one goes out to James. Last month when he came up to visit, i asked him to sit for me so I could sketch a portrait of him. In addition to some of the sketches I drew up, I also took some photo reference. I finally got a chance recently to whip out those photos and tackle this portrait for real. I've been doing more painting lately, so I took this as an opportunity to practice using my acrylics.
This one is of Stephanie that I did using colored inks, black ink and acrylic. This combination is something I want to continue experimenting with.
TOM - I started this one sometime before Christmas, but got distracted with some other things and had to put it to the side. This week though, I started coloring it a little at a time and finally finished it today. This is another attempt at incorporating type into my work. I had alot of fun with this one and really took my time on it. I've been messing around with drawing strawberries for a few months now and don't exactly know why except that they're really fun to draw, especially all bunched up. So naturally, I combined strawberries with the other subject I like to draw, cute girls, and this is what came out.

TOM - Picked up a new sketchbook last week at NY Art Central. Handmade paper from South India made from recycled cotton rag. The company is Khadi Papers. I'm into the texture of the paper and the way my pens are reacting to it. Here are some sketches I did last week while James was in town. Top one is of my bro Darren watching TV and below are some studies of James that really don't look like him, but I had fun with the ink wash.
